Ella the Budding Artist

Ella is turning into quite the artist.  She loves to take a blank piece of paper and will sit for hours until every inch of it is covered with color.  Her favorite things to draw are flowers and jellyfish.  She as also recently learned to draw shapes like circles and squares, and will make patterns of a square ithin in a square within a square.  She likes using sharp colored pencils and if a pencil is not sharpened to her specifications then she will hand it back to me.  I love watching her work so diligently and she is always so proud of her finished works.

Reading is fun!

A first for Rand today....I sent both of the kids to have some "room time" to relax and play by themselves for a bit this afternoon.  After about 30 minutes, I checked on Rand and he was re-reading "My Father's Dragon" and asked that I shut the door so he could keep reading.  Two hours later, he emerged, having finished with the book.  He was so proud of himself that he read the whole thing by himself.  I LOVED reading so much as a kid -- and still do -- and am thrilled that he is finding the same joy in books.  We finished The Voyage of the Dawn Treader tonight and I am trying to convince him to read The Horse and His Boy next instead of The Silver Chair.
